Walking Routes

From gentle woodland strolls to rugged moorland hikes, there are walking routes for all abilities right on our doorstep.

  • Thimbleby Loop Walk – A peaceful circular trail through estate woodland, farmland, and the picturesque village itself. Ideal for a morning wander.
  • Cod Beck Reservoir – Just a 10-minute drive away, this scenic walk follows the water’s edge and leads into the surrounding forest trails.
  • The Cleveland Way – Explore a section of this iconic National Trail, with sweeping views over the moors and coastline. Access points nearby include Osmotherley and Sutton Bank.

Top tip: Bring your binoculars—the area is rich in birdlife and deer are often spotted at dawn and dusk.

Cycling Routes

The surrounding area is a paradise for cyclists, whether you’re after a challenging climb or a relaxed ride through country lanes.

  • Thimbleby Bike Trails – Our own estate features a growing network of off-road cycling trails through woodland and open countryside.
  • Sutton Bank Cycle Centre – Hire bikes and explore family-friendly trails or try the more technical Cliff Trail.
  • Road Cycling – Quiet, scenic routes lead to places like Osmotherley, Hawnby and Helmsley, with tea rooms and pubs

You don’t have to travel far for good food and a welcoming pint. The area is full of cosy pubs, farm shops, and independent eateries.

  • The Golden Lion, Osmotherley – A traditional pub with hearty food, just a 10-minute drive away.
  • Roots Café, East Rounton – Rustic charm and great coffee, perfect for a light lunch or cycling stop.
  • The Cleveland Tontine – A stylish restaurant with fine dining, afternoon tea and a wine list to match.
  • Northallerton – This bustling market town is home to local butchers, bakeries, and favourites like Lewis & Cooper and Bettys Café Tea Rooms.

Thimbleby Shooting Ground

Located on the edge of Thimbleby village in over 11 acres the shooting ground offers clay shooting for all abilities. For those who hold a Shotgun Certificate the ground can be shot using the automatic card system. If you do not hold a certificate you need to be accompanied by a member of staff or shoot with a shotgun certificate holder.
